One single act done with aridity of spirit is worth more than many done with feelings of devotion.

We’ll have to ask St Francis when we see him!

I wasn’t sure if I agreed with the quote or not. I came to the conclusion that he meant this: By over-riding our feelings and doing what we know to be right/good – even when we really don’t feel like it – then we are building good into our lives and storing up treasure in heaven. A bit like praising God, even when it’s the last thing we want to do, because He wants us to. It does us good because we’re obeying Him and stepping out of our self absorption.

What do you think?

Yes, I think you’re right. Obeying when our spirits are crushed may be harder than obeying when we are feeling positive seems to be what he is saying.

Yep. Good.

It could be read that dryness itself is superior to devotion which is clearly a mistake and not what he meant.
