ACTS of Prayer

17 01 2010

We’re doing a series on prayer at church. This morning we were reminded of an acronym to help us structure our prayers away from the “shopping list” style of praying (please give me, make me, help me…) and directs us to a fuller, God-centred style instead:

A doration – give glory to God for who and what He is.

C onfession – be specific about our sin and hardness of heart towards God and His Word.

T hanksgiving – See God’s blessings in all circumstances and thank Him for them.

S upplication – God invites us to bring our concerns about ourselves and others to Him.

As always, praying this model through the Bible verses we’re reading for the day keeps our prayers fresh and God-focussed, rather than repetitive and self-focussed.
