Obituary

16 04 2009

I was upset to see a report that said letter writing is likely to become obsolete within my life-time. E-mails and texts are quick to send and much more convenient for rapid exchanges, but there is nothing to beat receiving a hand-written letter from someone sharing their news and views.

It’s more personal somehow – I’m not sure if that’s because more time and effort goes into writing and sending a letter, or simply because you see the person’s handwriting and signature.

Did people feel this way when telegrams ended?
