You in your small corner

26 03 2009

When we hear about the great work others are doing for the Kingdom of God, it is tempting to become discouraged and negative about the minor and insignificant work we are involved in. Others seem to be “really doing it”, reaching out, building, getting it right, while we are merely playing at it, doing nothing of any consequence.

But of course it’s wrong thinking. Paul must have been immensely frustrated at being stuck in jail while dodgy guys got to preach the gospel in his place. Yet God had a far bigger and better plan for using him than Paul could ever have imagined. Paul made the best of his situation and used the limited resources he had and… wrote a chunk of the New Testament!

Who are we to compare ourselves to others, our work to their work? We do what God has given us to do, we do it with all our strength and we do it gladly for His glory. That’s it.
